New Diabetes Medication approved by the FDA

Invokana (canagliflozin) was approved by the FDA on March 29, 2013. It’s a first-in-a-class medication for patients with type 2 diabetes. This once-daily pill works in a totally new way – by forcing the body to lose extra sugar by the way of the kidney by spilling it in the urine. Studies have shown improved blood sugar control without the risk of low sugar reactions. Additional benefit has been weight loss and the ability to combine it with other anti-diabetes drugs. Potential side effect might be genital infections.
